HI, I’M SARAH STAAB
My favorite pastimes as a child were drawing and catching bugs (and keeping them in my desk in plastic bottles – they only need grass and twigs, right?). I loved to record floor plans and use them to mark where the wood creaked so my younger brother and I could quietly sneak a peek at Santa during the holidays. I also would spend hours sketching the layout of my “secret laboratory,” which would be accessed from a trap door in my bedroom and kept the blueprints hidden on the backsides of posters.
With my fondness for drawing and being a lifelong city lover (currently residing in Midtown), I still find it surprising that it took until the 11th grade to realize that architecture was my calling. I quickly enrolled at Southern Polytechnic State University, and after many tears and long nights, I left with my Bachelor of Architecture in 2010. I worked at an engineering firm for a few years before being hired as an architectural designer with Hughes Turner Phillips, known at the time as Herring Troy Associates.
One day in 2015, I was inspired to serve my country in the United States Air Force Reserve and left my civilian job to become an aircraft mechanic (C130H Crew Chief) at Dobbins, ARB. After traveling the world and meeting many great people, however, I began to miss my time as a designer and decided to come home. In March of 2023, I was lucky enough to be reunited with my family here at HTP, and I have happily been living my dream ever since – Go Boomerangs!
